"The Road Map"
ITS, with the aid of the Chief Scientist Department in the Ministry of Transport and Road Safety, mapped the transportation needs in Israel, including the road safety field. Under this activity, ITS carried out a series of twelve monthly meetings during 2007 and 2008, in which ideas, technical solutions and new developments of intelligent transport systems were introduced. The meetings dealt with issues such as smart intersection, driver monitoring technology, needs and technologies for toll roads, autonomic vehicles, automatic transport systems and commercial applications for road users.
ITS created work groups for parties with interests (private manufactures, public companies and private stake holders). These groups are engaged with building a common technological denominator and standardization references for the different fields of intelligent transport systems. These work groups are divided according to fields (intelligent vehicle systems, public transportation and smart road) and each one of them meets averagely once a month.
Mapping ITS Israel Activities Survey
Following the request of the Transport Ministry’s Chief Scientists in the Transportation Ministry, ITS Israel conducted a survey for the purpose of mapping the various activities in Israel in the field of intelligent traffic systems. As a part of this activity, a "Yellow Pages" website was built for ITS which presents, by categories, developments, applications and companies from the field of intelligent traffic systems as well as worksheets and different type of projects (research and demonstration). Moreover, a review and mapping of shelf products and integrative systems can be found on the website.
Participation in Regulation Committees for ITS Systems
ITS Israel has been participating since September 2007 in the activity of a technical regulation committee (2150) in the Standards Institution of Israel. The purpose of the committee is to analyze needs and guide the regulation activity in the intelligent traffic systems field. The committee also reviews international standards in the ITS field, recommends proper regulation work and recommends nomination of experts committees as well as inspections after their activities. For the purpose of forming a manufactures position in the subject of vehicle data registrar, the manufactures' positions will be transferred to the experts committee in the Standards Institution.
Road Safety Technology Assimilation Forum
ITS created a collaboration with "Or Yarok" (Green Light) association and the National Road Safety Authority, that focuses on promoting safety technology implementation among the public and specifically in organizations and vehicle fleets. Under this collaboration, ITS seeks knowledge foundation it the field of safety technology. In order to promote this goal, a safety technology implementation forum was established. The forum organizes study days and seminars for companies, vehicle fleets and transport organizations for the purpose of developing the awareness of managing the investments in road safety and the use of safety technology.
